Ten Hag explains decision to play Harry Maguire as a striker against Real Sociedad
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag took off Alejandro Garnacho and brought on Harry Maguire in the 82nd minute as the Red Devils searched for a second goal against Real Sociedad.
The Red Devils needed to win by a 2-goal margin to secure top spot in our Europa League group and qualify directly to the last-16.
Explaining the decision to play Maguire as a striker against Real Sociedad, Ten Hag said: “Clear [why Maguire went up front]: we needed the goal and then we went more opportune.
“With Cristiano and Harry Maguire, you have two good headers and we tried to go more direct into the box and I think we did several times, quicker to get into the box for the opponent.”
