Manchester United legends Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes have reacted to Manchester United terminating Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract.

Manchester United confirmed on Tuesday that Ronaldo has left the club with immediate effect.

“To see it end this way with Manchester United, obviously he is a former teammate and as a fan of Manchester United, it is sad to see it end this way,” Rooney told Visa Match Centre Live.

“But I think after everyone has seen the interview he did with Piers Morgan and how he attacked the club, I think there was no option.

“There was no option but for this to happen. Am I surprised? No. But it’s a shame because he has been a fantastic servant.”

Scholes also indicated that he too backs United’s decision to cut ties with Ronaldo. Sharing a headline of Ronaldo’s release, Scholes captioned on Instagram: “Mission accomplished…arsed!”
