France boss makes decision on Raphael Varane

Manchester United centre-back Raphael Varane is set to start France’s World Cup game against Denmark despite being absent since late October, according to L’Equipe.

The 29-year-old picked up an injury to his thigh in Manchester United’s draw against Chelsea on October 22, and hasn’t played a competitive fixture in over a month.

Ahead of France 4-1 victory over Australia, Deschamps said Varane was fit and ready to play, though he did not feature against Australia.

France’s rumoured XI for Denmark on Saturday: Lloris; Kounde, Varane, Upamecano, T. Hernandez; Tchouameni, Rabiot; Dembele, Griezmann, Mbappe; Giroud.
