According to Sky Sport’s journalist Florian Plettenberg via Goal, Manchester United and Barcelona are inching closer to formalizing a deal for Memphis Depay.
The Dutch forward has fallen down the pecking order under Xavi at Barcelona and the Spanish club is therefore looking to offload him to save on his wages.
Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United exit last week, Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag in need of a striker and the Dutch manager is prepared to sign Depay in January.
Meanwhile, Depay has spoken about his future amid interest from Manchester United.
Depay has played just three times for Barcelona this season due to a thigh injury and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, Barcelona are reportedly open to selling him in January.
Addressing speculation about his future, Depay said: “The injury has been hard, but I’m already recovered and I’m enjoying a World Cup.
“I don’t want to think about the past, I’m focused on the World Cup. I also don’t want to think beyond this competition. I don’t know what will happen after the World Cup.”
