REVEALED: Why Marcus Rashford was dropped to the bench for the game against Wolves
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford was dropped from the starting XI for the game against Wolves with Alejandro Garnacho replacing him on the left of United’s attack.
It was the only chance to the starting XI for the 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night at Old Trafford.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag confirmed before the game at Wolves that Rashford was dropped from the starting XI due to an ‘internal disciplinary’ issue.
Asked why Rashford is not in the starting XI, ten Hag bluntly told BT Sport: “Internal disciplinary.”
The United boss refused to elaborate on his star player’s omission.
Rashford’s absence was the only change to the United side that eased past Forest midweek with Luke Shaw continuing at centre-half alongside Raphael Varane.
“We have a good team and Alejandro [Garnacho] comes in. He did really well in the last couple of games and made huge progress — I am expecting him to contribute and expecting him to bring his skills,” Ten Hag added.
“Harry [Maguire] has to recover from illness and there are many games to come — but tactical wise, this [Shaw at centre-back] fits really good for the Wolves game, both when defending and in offence.”
