Rio Ferdinand reveals what Man United must do to Erik ten Hag after 3-2 defeat to Arsenal
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged Manchester United to give Erik ten Hag time to get to the heights Mikel Arteta is currently enjoying at Arsenal.
Arteta has been at the Emirates for more than three years and has led his team to the top of the Premier League as the season reaches its midway point.
Ten Hag is on course to guide United to a top four finish in his first season in charge of Manchester United.
Speaking on Vibe with Five, Ferdinand said: “What it shows you is that patience and time [are required]. Get in a manager who you believe in, or the club did.
“Pep [Guardiola] said this to me about Arteta and what’s good about him. He said the guy works so hard, he’s such a hard worker, he’s so passionate and he’s so involved and engrossed in what he is doing.
“He knows what he’s doing and you can see why the club have taken him and why they have stuck by him, at the beginning when it wasn’t going so great. They saw the long picture what it looked like.
“I think the big difference between the two teams… one team looked like they had a manager who had been there for the time that he had in Arteta and one looked like he was at the beginning of his journey [Ten Hag] by the end of this game.
“You have to see somewhere where you say you are going to stick by that. So with Arteta they have seen a work-ethic, they have seen a plan and a pathway with him. That is why they stuck with him.”
