Jurgen Klopp admits he was wrong to criticise this Manchester United transfer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted he was ‘wrong’ to slam Paul Pogba’s Manchester United transfer fee.

Klopp made the admission after Liverpool offered £110million for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Liverpool’s offer for Caicedo saw Klopp questioned about his comments in 2016 when Manchester United signed Pogba from Juventus for around £89million.

Speaking in 2016, the German said: “If you bring one player in for £100m and he gets injured, then it all goes through the chimney.

“The day that this is football, I’m not in a job anymore, because the game is about playing together.

“Other clubs can go out and spend more money and collect top players. I want to do it differently. I would even do it differently if I could spend that money.”

Clearly prices have gone up since then but nevertheless, Klopp admits he was wrong with his comments at the time.

“Everything changed. Do I like it? No. Did I realise I was wrong? Definitely. That’s the way it goes,” Klopp said in a press conference on Friday.

“It’s not great, it’s not top, but it’s the way it goes. Saudi Arabia definitely will not help with that. Not blaming anybody, but it will not help. Another market with a lot of money.

“In the end, we as a club we have to try to make sure, with our resources, with the money we have, we get the best possible team together.

“We try to bring together the bets team or squad for us, that’s the idea. We are not in dreamland, we can’t just point at players and bring them in. sometimes one door closes and the other opens up, that happens.

“But yes, if people want to throw my quotes from 5 or 6 years ago at me, that’s no problem. on that day that’s what I thought, I realise now I was wrong, it’s easy to admit that.”
