Erik ten Hag tells his Manchester United players four things they must do to beat Bayern Munich ahead of midweek Champions League showdown
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes his Manchester United side can beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday if they can get four things right.
United face the Bundesliga Champions in our first group game of the 2023/24 group stage in Group A along with Galatasaray and Copenhagen.
However, United head into the game off the back of a third Premier League defeat of the season already.
Speaking after that defeat, Ten Hag was keen to turn his attention to the game against Bayern in the Champions League, highlighting four key things his team need to do in order to beat the reigning Bundesliga champions.
“Bayern Munich I think is one of the favourites to win the Champions League so we have to be good there,” he said.
“But I think I have already explained what we need there – we need character, belief, resilience, determination, absolutely.”
The Dutch tactician also acknowledged that his players need to “improve” their general play after a number of disappointing results and performances.
“We have to improve, there are things for the team and the individuals, who have to step up,” he explained.
“Sometimes, in those difficult periods, where we are now, you have to face that and you have to deal with that. In this moment, we don’t deal well with it but we showed that least year, the resilience and determination, also in defence, as you say.
“You will see the game. Did you see [us at] Arsenal? Did you see [us at] Spurs? They could have been the other way. We have to correct it by ourselves. We can’t blame anyone else. We have to do better, be more resilient and be more determined to get these wins.”
