Why Manchester United lost to Crystal Palace – Alan Shearer explains

Legendary Premier League striker Alan Shearer has slammed Manchester United’s attack for failing to deliver in our disappointing 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace.

United fail to break down a resolute Palace defence despite the fact the team had an xG of 1.67 compared to the Eagles’ 0.81. United also failed to create enough clear-cut chances to win the game

“Manchester United were very poor in front of goal, albeit having to come up against a rock of a defence in Crystal Palace,” Shearer told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Roy Hodgson set his team up to frustrate, and Guehi and Andersen in particular were absolutely outstanding at the back.

“No way through them, defended deep and hit on the counter when they got the opportunity

“A lot of talk will be about Man United, about them not creating well and playing well enough, but Palace deserve all the credit, their defensive display stopped the home side from playing.”
