Former Manchester United player gives his verdict on the club’s Premier League and Champions League chances
Former Manchester United player Robbie Savage has ruled Manchester United out of the title race, and also believes United cannot win the Champions League this season due to early season struggles.
The Class of 92 graduate feels aiming for a spot in the top four would be a more realistic target for the team.
Speaking to Planet Sport Bet, Savage said: “After only seven games, a place in the top-four looks the most realistic goal for Manchester United. That’s quite remarkable considering they finished third last season and I thought they could challenge for the title this time around.
“They are miles off that now and realistically they now have to be thinking about a top-four spot because they have absolutely no chance of winning the Premier League or the Champions League.
“Erik ten Hag needs time [to turn it around]. We all know it hasn’t been a good start and he needs to get his best players back fit and playing with confidence.
“He was one of the best coaches in the world last year and you can’t go from singing his praises to suggesting he doesn’t suit Manchester United. The players need to put the hours in on the training ground so they can buy into his plans, but that is going to take time and patience.”
So far, United have recorded three wins and four defeats from seven Premier League games, and have lost our two opening fixtures in the season’s Champions League, sitting bottom of our group.
