Paul Merson names the Manchester United star who will be key to our Champions League qualification hopes
Pundit Paul Merson has named Rasmus Hojlund as the player that will help Manchester United secure Champions League qualification this season.
Arsenal legend Merson, feels the Dane’s ability to score goals and find consistency in his game will be crucial to the club’s top-four hopes.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Paul Merson said: “You take away Arsenal and Manchester City, who will finish in the top two this season, then there are seven sides competing for three remaining Champions League places.
“So it [the Champions League qualification race] is going to come down to consistency. All these teams at the moment can beat each other on their day, we have seen that already this season and it is whoever stays consistent.
“Manchester United are in the race for the top five. I like Rasmus Hojlund, he will score goals but they, like all these teams, just need to get some consistency. The pressure is on as you are playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
Meanwhile, due to changes in the Champions League format, finishing in the top 5 could be enough to secure a place in the 2023/24 edition of the continental competition.
Currently, United occupy 10th place in the Premier League with 12 points from eight games and a goal difference of negative three.
