Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that Alexander Isak and Sven Botman are ruled out for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Manchester United at Old Trafford due to injury.
Sweden international Isak suffered a recurrence of a groin injury in the Magpies Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund and missed their last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
Botman, meanwhile, has not played for the Magpies since scoring in the 8-0 huge win at Sheffield United at the end of September due to a knee injury.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Howe said: “I don’t think, for this game, we’re expecting anyone that wasn’t available before Wolves to be available now.
“The majority are longer-term unfortunately for us. That’s the position we’re in so we’ll be going with a very similar squad.
“[Sven] Botman is unclear at the moment so we’re going day-by-day with that one currently. Alex [Isak], we hope, will be back after the international break.”
Newcastle are also having to cope without Harvey Barnes (ankle), Jacob Murphy (shoulder), Lewis Miley (grandular fever), Elliot Anderson (back), with the latter facing around eight weeks on the sidelines.
