Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag seems to be losing control of his Manchester United dressing room.
Results have been far from impressive, and even when United manage to get a win, the performance have also been far from pleasing.
According to the Telegraph, Ten Hag’s handling of the situations surrounding Jadon Sancho and Harry Maguire have troubled members of the squad who have privately questioned his methods.
Sancho was dropped from the squad for the defeat to Arsenal in early September, with ten Hag blaming Sancho for a perceived lack of effort in training.
Sancho publicly denied his manager’s claims, insisting he had been made a ‘scapegoat’, which has since made the young winger be banished from the squad.
For Maguire, he was stripped of his captaincy and place in the team for no apparent fault of his. The Englishman is now back in the team, and even looks to be the most reliable centre-back at the moment.
Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag is unfazed by the situation, and insists that he’s confident in his job as Manchester United manager.
“I understand that when the results are not there, it is a logical process to question [the manager]. But I am confident I can do it. With all my clubs I have done it and also last year I did it here as well. In this moment, we are in a bad place,” he said.
“I take responsibility for it. I see it as a challenge. It is not good enough. We know that. We were in the game and in a couple of minutes we gave the game away. That’s below our standards and we know that. We have to take responsibility for this.
“You only get your confidence when you take responsibility and you fight and you are winning and dictating the crowd. When you do that, you get results and from there you build your own confidence.”
