Ten Hag explains why he shouted aggressively at this Manchester United star
Erik ten Hag seemed to have had a heated row with Anthony Martial, during the defeat to Newcastle.
The Frenchman has struggled this season, and had a bad night at the St James Park. He was eventually subbed off in the second half for Rasmus Hojlund just after 61 minutes.
At a point during the game, Ten Hag was seen screaming at Martial – with the Frenchman arguing back.
Speaking about the incident in his post-match press conference, Ten Hag said: “It’s not about Antony Martial.
“It’s about the team. I tried to energise the team, to get a reaction from the team.
“In this moment, we had a tough period. When you are coaching you are a little bit more aggressive and that is normal.”
Martial has managed just one goal and one assist in 12 Premier League matches this season.
