Manchester United warned about signing former Chelsea ‘flop’
Michael Owen has warned Manchester United to shelve the thought of signing former Chelsea forward, Timo Werner, and look for a much-bigger name.
The Red Devils are believed to be in the market for a potent goalscorer, as they look to challenge for a Champions League spot.
Werner spent two years at Chelsea, and was allowed to leave after failing to hit top gear despite getting numerous opportunities to do so.
The German returned to the RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga 18 months ago, where he has managed just two goals in 13 appearances this term, and according to Owen, he isn’t fit to play for a top Premier League side like Manchester United.
“Timo Werner had a good record and he scored a lot of goals before he came to the Premier League,” Owen told Boylesports.
“Chelsea’s number nine shirt has been a difficult one to fill for many years now. Didier Drogba was incredible, but the club has tried and failed with some unbelievably big names.”
