After the full-time whistle at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening, it was more of relief than joy for Manchester United after they defeated Coventry City.

Manchester United were overwhelming favourites against Championship side Coventry City, and expectedly so.

United totally dominated the first-half of this FA Cup semi-final tie at Wembley, as goals from Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire gave Manchester United a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Just before the hour mark, Manchester United made it 3-0, with Bruno Fernandes getting on the scoresheet.

The contest seemed over at this point until Manchester United conceded two goals in quick succession in the 71st and 79th minute.

Coventry had the momentum at this point and continued to pile on the pressure until they were awarded a controversial penalty in stoppage time, which was converted by Haji Wright.

The game went on to extra time, and Manchester United didn’t have control of the game. It got worse in the final minute of extra time when Victor Torp scored a goal, which was marginally ruled out for offside.

Manchester United won the tie in penalty shootout. It was a scary one nevertheless, after Casemiro missed the first kick following a careless panelka.

Manchester United will now play Manchester City in the final of the FA Cup next month.
