Promising manager may choose Manchester United over Chelsea

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, is being targeted by both Manchester United and Chelsea to become their manager.

Chelsea have already sacked Mauricio Pochettino, while Manchester United will sack Erik ten Hag after the FA Cup final.

McKenna, who previously worked as a coach under Ole Gunnar Solskjær at Manchester United, has impressed with his managerial skills at Ipswich Town. He took over Ipswich in December 2021 and led them from League One to the Championship, securing promotion with a remarkable 98 points in the 2022-23 season.

This season, McKenna also impressed, as Ipswich came second in the Championship and thus gained Premier League promotion​.

Reports claim McKenna will prefer a move to Manchester United over Chelsea.

Manchester United have reportedly made initial contact with McKenna’s representatives, though these discussions are still in the early stages.

McKenna’s contract with Ipswich runs until 2027, and the club is keen to retain him, but may find it difficult to resist the attempts from Manchester United and Chelsea.

McKenna, was once described as ‘incredible’ by Sir Alex Ferguson, and he could be available for around £6m.

McKenna has strong connections with United, having previously been a youth coach at the club before stepping up to become part of the first-team coaching staff.

According to Sky Sports News, representatives of McKenna met with United’s chief executive Omar Berrada and the club’s technical director Jason Wilcox last week to discuss the managerial role at Old Trafford.
