It hurts – Ten Hag reveals what pained him most about losing to Manchester City

Manchester United lost the Community Shield to Manchester City, as City won the tie in penalty shoot-out.
Both sides played out a 1-1 draw in normal time, and Manchester United who were the better side overall in the Community Shield clash, nearly won the game in regular time.
After a slow start to the game, Manchester United ended the first half strongly. United even improved in the second half, and got rewarded with a goal in the 82nd minute, courtesy of Alejandro Garnacho.
United had a moment where they lost concentration, and conceded from a Bernardo Silva header in the 89th minute.
After losing the Community Shield to Manchester City this weekend, Erik ten Hag told ITV: “Tough result to take.
“When the performance is right, when you lose everyone feels this.
“It hurts in your stomach. You have to feel pain and we have to hurt.
“We have to take this belief in to the league.”
Ten Hag was disappointed that United didn’t get the second goal, which would have been enough to win the Community Shield.
He added: “We did very good to produce the second goal in the FA Cup final before half-time and weren’t able to do that here.”
Manchester United return to action next weekend for the start of the Premier League campaign against Fulham.
