Ten Hag hails one surprise player after Manchester United lose to Manchester City

Manchester United lost the Community Shield to Manchester City, as City won the tie in penalty shoot-out.

Both sides played out a 1-1 draw in normal time, but it’s a game Manchester United should have won.

One player who earned the praise of his boss was Casemiro.

The Brazilian was linked with a summer transfer away from Old Trafford, after an underwhelming season.

However, he has looked back to his best in pre-season, and Erik ten Hag is expecting more from Casemiro.

Ten Hag said of Casemiro: “Since a long time he has pre-season, he is very fit at this moment; the team work together, which makes it easier. Then he brings his skills. He is very important for our team.”

After losing the Community Shield to Manchester City, a disappointed Erik ten Hag told ITV: “Tough result to take.

“When the performance is right, when you lose everyone feels this.

“It hurts in your stomach. You have to feel pain and we have to hurt.

“We have to take this belief in to the league.”
