Ten Hag explains why Antony was allowed to take penalty ahead of Marcus Rashford
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has explained why Marcus Rashford forfeited the penalty in the team’s 7-0 Carabao Cup victory over Barnsley to Antony.
United recorded their biggest victory under Erik ten Hag as the Red Devils demolished the League One side in the Carabao Cup meeting with Antony, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Christian Eriksen getting on the scoresheet.
Ten Hag praised the teamwork displayed by Rashford, who surrendered the spot-kick to his teammate.
The gesture allowed Antony to score his first penalty goal since joining Manchester United, thus boosting his confidence in the process.
“Antony needed some confidence, and Rashford gave him the penalty,” Ten Hag explained.
“They are together.”
