Ruben Amorim reveals his biggest struggle as Manchester United manager

Rúben Amorim has opened up about the harsh realities of managing Manchester United, admitting that the pressure of the job has been a steep learning curve—especially when results don’t go his way.
Since taking charge at Old Trafford, Amorim has had to adapt to a new style of football and deal with the relentless scrutiny that comes with managing one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Speaking in a candid interview, the Portuguese coach admitted:
“I think everything has been challenging. I’m learning a lot.”
Amorim, who enjoyed a winning record at Sporting CP, confessed that managing a team where victories aren’t guaranteed has been a humbling experience.
“The type of game is so different. I’m also learning also, I was so lucky to always be winning [before joining Man United] and when you are winning you can say whatever you want. I’m quite honest and I always felt really free because I backed myself with the results, and when you don’t have the results you have to balance that, and I’m learning that.”
He also acknowledged the intense scrutiny from pundits, former players, and fans—something that makes the United job even more demanding.
“Here, everyone has an opinion and the type of opinions are stronger with the legend, and you have to manage that also.”
Despite the outside noise, Amorim remains focused on his long-term vision for United, knowing that results ultimately dictate public perception.
“When I say that I don’t care, it’s that I know the results will change everything. You can have an opinion today. Next year, at the same time and hour, you will find me a completely different coach.”
However, for all the challenges, Amorim admits that nothing compares to the pain of losing.
“The hardest part is to lose, no matter what. The context, the squad… it doesn’t matter. Not winning games as a coach is the hardest part of our job.”
United fans will hope that Amorim’s learning curve is a fast one, as he looks to turn the club’s fortunes around and restore them to their former glory.
