Graham Potter admits he has no idea of the Manchester United side that will show up against West Ham

West Ham United head coach Graham Potter has admitted he is unsure what kind of Manchester United side his team will face on Sunday at Old Trafford, as the Hammers prepare to take on a Red Devils side buoyed by European success but still searching for domestic consistency.
Manchester United will host West Ham in the Premier League aiming to secure their first home league win since February. Despite their struggles in the Premier League, United come into this fixture riding high after an emphatic 4-1 win over Athletic Bilbao on Thursday night, which secured their place in the Europa League final under manager Rúben Amorim.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Potter was candid about the unpredictability surrounding Manchester United’s approach to the game.
“We have no idea how Manchester United will approach the game,” the former Chelsea boss said. “It’s always complicated at Old Trafford, but we have to focus on ourselves and try to get the three points.”
Potter insisted that his side would not be drawn into speculation or mind games, stressing the importance of West Ham concentrating on their own performance. “We want to try and win and it doesn’t matter about the opponent,” he added, underlining the Hammers’ intention to end their own disappointing league campaign on a positive note.
Both teams have had underwhelming seasons in the league, with just 19 wins between them so far – a statistic that highlights their inconsistency and struggles throughout the campaign. However, with a European final now on the horizon for United, Potter acknowledged the progress made by Amorim since taking charge.
“It’s a tough job to go in when he did,” Potter said, reflecting on the Portuguese manager’s arrival at Old Trafford. “I think the club’s in a position where there’s a lot of change, and credit to the club and the fans for supporting him. They’re in the Europa League final, so there’s a chance to finish well.”
While Potter’s side will arrive at Old Trafford aware of the threat United pose, particularly after their recent European showing, the West Ham boss is clearly focused on ensuring his team maintains belief and resilience in the final stretch of the season.
The match offers both clubs a chance to restore some pride in their domestic campaigns and, for United, an opportunity to build momentum heading into the Europa League final. For Potter and West Ham, it’s a test of character against an unpredictable opponent on one of the toughest stages in English football.
Will United ride the wave of European glory or suffer another Old Trafford stumble? Sunday’s clash promises answers—and perhaps, more questions.
