Revealed: Why Man United won’t sell this player to West Ham, Newcastle and Tottenham
Manchester United have been stalling on approving a loan move for want-away star, Jesse Lingard, and the reason is simple.
According to The Athletic, Joel Glazer, owner of the club, has blocked the player from joining West Ham and Tottenham because they’re considered rivals for top four this season.
Both clubs have made no secret of their admiration for Lingard, who has been limited to making substitute appearances for Man United since the start of the current campaign. But the United hierarchy are wary he could give them an edge as the race for the Champions League places heats up.
Newcastle are also interested in Lingard, and appear the most favoured of the lot, but with the new-found wealth of the club, senior officials at Old Trafford are also aware they may become a force in the league, and don’t want to help them achieve that so easily.
Lingard is desperate to play football, with the World Cup coming soon, but at the moment, the future does seem bleak for the 29 year old.
