Danny Murphy has called for Cristiano Ronaldo to be dropped from the Manchester United team after his reaction over his substitution against Newcastle on Sunday.
Murphy told talkSPORT: “He’s allowed to [sulk], that’s the problem.
“I think the manager should be saying to him, ‘Look you’re starting today’, have a conversation with him before each game.
“He deserves that respect from any manager, not just Ten Hag. It’s a conversation with one of the great players where you say, ‘Look, you’re starting give me everything and I’ll probably take you off after 70 but I don’t want the histrionics when you come off, it does me no favours’, and if he does you just bomb him.
“You’ve gotta start creating a discipline at a club like Manchester United that everyone can follow.
“I’m not comparing [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang to Ronaldo because they’re not comparable in that respect, but he was a big figure at Arsenal and Mikel Arteta just gave him chance after chance and then thought, ‘You know what? You’re gone’.
“Now, Ronaldo might be going in January anyway on his own terms and that’s up to him, but when you’re in a club like Manchester United, Ten Hag’s got to take control of it quicker because he just looks like he’s got no control over him.”
